I chanced upon the 1st episode of the new TV drama in Channel 4 entitled Hatarakiman. In English it literally means Work Buff, someone who is just really engrossed at work. But actually, it is a recent term for hardworking females here in Japan who aspires to become successful in their own field of work. Women are traditionally bound to stay and tend homes but a lot has changed over the past 10 years. I immediately related to the storyline. As a woman who can do her job, there really are present and real challenges and even heartaches that go along with it, especially in this Male-dominated country. Some guys are just really so egoistic, and some of them look down on women. There are those who respect and admire women who are successful. But there are also a steep competition among these working girls (which a lot of people normally refer to her as RIVALRY) which sometimes result in a more dramatic, at times, more colorful work life.
