Crazy Horse Memorial, a would be biggest sculptor in the world situated at the Black Hills, South Dakota, fascinates me because it represents one man's larger than life dreams. Its sculptor Ziolskowski decided that he would act on his dream of building someting huge for the American Indians, in the same grandeur as Mt Rushmore for the white Americans. Equipt with talent, determination and $154 on his pocket, he has started a flame and passion that extends to his family members to complete the memorial of Crazy Horse, an American Indian hero. I won't be around to see the completion of this magnificent work of art, but I am lucky to have set foot on the very hill which Ziolkowski and his family have labored and sweat. He and his family have completed the head of Crazy Horse - after 50 laboring years.

This white Crazy Horse sculptor model is an actual work of Ziolkowski, and according to the current builders, they still use, even to this date, the measurements and notes that Ziolkowski himself had done.
I've seen his wife walking and mingling with tourists, as some of his children, in the Laughing Restaurant (just opposite of this statue). They currently hold an non-profit organization to support the work that needs to be done. Crazy Horse Memorial is not a National Park and it is not funded by the US Govt, for the simple reason that Ziolkowski believed that when you have a dream, you do everything to make it come true, everything except receive alms, he believed in the power of free enterprise not in handing down the bread to your palms. Geez, he's such a very principled man.
