成人の日

Yesterday was a public holiday in Tokyo, a day when all the new adults (those who will turn 20 this year) are celebrated and presented to society. This event is synanymous to the debutante we usually celebrate(in the Phils its your 18th birthday) and so it's always a big deal for families to celebrate seijin no hi. At 20, finally you are allowed to drink, go out of your house and live your own and legally you will be responsible to help shape the society, in other words, you can now meddle with politics as turning 20 makes you legally qualified to vote.
When I saw the faces of a couple of girls living near my apartment I can't help but envy them. There is this anticipation, the excitement to embrace life and a vibrant and hopeful aura in these young adults. I remember being the same when I graduated from college at 20. The world is very well within my reach! I was excited. But now, a decade and 2 years after my graduation, exhaustion finally caught up. It also probably goes with ageing but somewhere along the way I lost a lot of that passion, of that fire and desire to live and conquer the world. I would give anything to find it back again.
And so to the new players of our society my wish for you is that you find your own places in the world and I pray that you dont lose the fire that will keep you moving in good times and in bad.
