I had a quick chat with one of my colleagues about my language abilities which eventually led to the question if I find it difficult to pronounce Japanese. I told my him that I don't because my native language' pronunciation and alphabet is actually the same as Japanese, plus some more. I recited the alphabet matrix which is very similar to the Japanese, only that the order is mixed u, e.g A E I O U in Filipino, A I U E O in Japanese. He was amazed and our conversation ended there.
This morning on my way to the office, I tried to sing the Filipino alphabet song..To my shock I couldn't remember the middle part of it. I tried reciting the matrix and indeed, the middle part just blacks out! It's a shame that I forgot and still can't remember some things that I have learned way way back. But I guess the thing is, what really are the most memorable and accessible are the ones that are still fresh in our hearts.
