Changes

The quality of this year's rice harvest is not good. Blame it on the very hot and long summer this year, according to the Niigata farmers. They are expressing concerns that 'good' rice, Japan's staple food since time immemorial will not be sufficient to feed the Japanese in the near future.

This I get to wonder as I was doing my usual morning work from the station to the office - should we really stress too much about changes that are brought to us by nature? The world constantly changes, that we cannot deny. A part of why is because of how we affect the world, but most parts of it, my brain cannot phantom and neither would I want to attempt to understand. But the fact remains, the world will always change. All we can do is adapt. Yes, it is hard to let go of traditions, of the things that we have been raised with, or have been close to all all our lives, but that is just how it is. 20 years ago I envy those 'cool' boys and girls who had beepers. And then I graduated to bulky and heavy cellphones, and now the cellphones are in 3G already. The kids of today are different from my time, but do I blame them for being different? Sure I feel uncomfortable that elementary students shave their eyebrows and put on make up already, but I guess that's how everybody else now.

It is frustrating to be in the center of everything changing. But when I really think about it, I'm really hardly the center. It'll be too arrogant to even say I am.
