I heard news that my 後輩 when I worked briefly in a bank in Manila is very sick with Stage 4 brain tumor. It was a shock because all I can remember about him is his very romantic, idealistic and very eager boy who wants to make a statement in the world. He would fondly call me 'my long lost big sister'. I really don't know what to say to him, especially that his 2nd baby was born just last year. The most amazing thing about it, is that with his wife beside him, they're taking things in the most humorous way. For that he will forever earn my respect.
On a separate topic, another friend is consulting me about what the right words to say to his boss because he will be accepting a better position offered by a different company. I advised him three things. (1) tell the truth (2) be clear about why he will accept the offer in relation to his personal future and career goals and the most important thing (3) don't burn bridges. Hopefully, all goes well.
My Chinese (ex-)staff will go back to her home country this weekend. She has finally accepted the fact that Japan is not for her. The language difference, the culture difference, they way she feels discriminated just put a toll on her. I wish her all the best!
