I visited Shana's blog today and I took real notice of her post regarding the benefits she and her family has in Aussie (compared and in contrast with what PH can possibly offer). Indeed 1st world countries have good benefits, and in JP I am entitled to
- Comprehensive and free annual checkups and follow-up medical consultations.
- Free dental, and in some clinics even dermatological services.
- Overly huge huge discounts over local tours such as hot springs, etc.
- Access to lots of public gyms with minimum (and I really mean minimum) cost.
- Free medication and health insurance, offered both my your company and by the government.
- Good roads, efficient transportation system, safe environments.
- Up to 1 year maternity leave with 80% of your salary still coming to your account each month.
- 3 Months Health Leave, entitled to 100% of your salary (and your job secured and intact). I am actually taking this 3months health leave, my company doesnt want me to resign but I truly need time to recuperate and deal with my health issues first.
- Up to 1 year extended health leave entitled to an 80% of your salary and job security.
I can probably list a hundred more of them, which I wouldn't get in PH, even though I religiously pay my taxes. But more than anything, the comfort of living, high quality of life, and the security are fringe benefits that are honestly hard to trade. Sure, I miss my family, friends and Filipino food and home will always be where the heart is. But for now, I am thankful for these blessings.
