Don't text while walking

I saw this middle aged lady texting while walking inside the lobby of a building. She just got off the escalator and without looking turned to her left (I can guess she's on the way out). A little bit farther in the same side are benches where I happen to be sitting down. There was a ramp for disabled that was adjacent to the side of the elevator. The normal walkway was to the ramp's right. This lady started at the normal walkway and for some reason she overstepped the small elevation and landed at the lower part of the ground which was the walkway. She lost her balance (and her cellphone). Her umbrella flew out of her hands and she groaned. I saw her cellphone landed on the floor and the shrieking sound of crispy plastic got into my ears. She picked up her shattered cellphone and there's this other girl who picked up her umbrella. The girl tried to help her pick herself up but she ignored help. She went on to walk outside the building.
There's a law against texting while driving but I do believe that texting while walking is as dangerous. I do it all the time myself and there were several narrow escapes from what could have been nasty accidents. I don't wish for stiff laws to govern the populace regarding the use of cellphones in the pedestrian but I hope to start doing the right thing and hopefully influence other people to minimize texting whle walking.
