Time management is one of the most essential skills a person needs to master in any aspect of life. We're constantly pressured with our deadlines, our deliverables over time, our performance given a specific period, and even though in our personal lives, we don't have clearcut measurements of how we should be performing, or accomplishing our tasks, we are obligated to pay our bills, our mortgages given a due time.
When I was younger, I have always thought that I was superwoman. When your body is still very capable and the mind is so willing, it looks and feels as if you can take on what the world throws at you and nothing and no one can stop you. But then reality sinks in, we face adversity, we battle frustrations, and then our body gets tired, our mind exhausted. We burn out. I burned out. Badly.
And out of this horrific experience, everything in me changed. It was an unconscious transformation but I did learn the value of managing your time wisely, learning how to say no, how to choose intelligently, making my To Do list, and most importantly, drawing a timeline to plan my daily activities. It came in very naturally and I block my calendar to give myself time to read my emails, to do admin stuffs, to have a break (this is important), to go out for lunch (to refresh the mind and exercise the body a bit), and to focus only on my planned activities as much as possible. At home, I have this white board that I write reminders and targets for the month. Some people think it's silly but it works for me. I now have time for play and time for work. It is true - you don't necessarily have to work hard to be effective. Work smart. Take well deserved rests. Care for yourself. Value your loved ones. Cherish each single moment you own to freely do whatever you chooses to.
Good Tuesday!
