Holy week always brings back good and wacky memories of the whole Regala clan annual reunion. My grandma Maye would gather all of us, and the entrepreneur she is, some of the grown-ups would build a small hut so we can sell food to the patrons. We all help. And we all get our 'salary'.
My grandma Maye loves to cook. And all the rest of my paternal blood connections love to entertain. But we the children would have take turns reciting the passion of the cross (errr singing it...). I used to hate it because it was so boring. But then nothing shows on TV except for The Passion Of The Cross so really there wasn't much to do. Then we would all do the same routine, while the Moms would gossip, the dads would take turns getting drunk and in the center of it all my grandma. My grandpa was always contented to be on the sideline, just go with the flow and provide support in whatever way he can.
We all look forward to Easter Sunday, not only because Christ has risen but also because we all get to be free to go to the church and watch reenactments of the resurrection. And then in the afternoon, we would all gather together in my grandparents house, drink and eat, and sing and dance! Most of my cousins are in bands. Well my grandparents were quite famous band members back in their younger days. My papa (without any bias) is the best guitar player in the whole clan. Sadly his children though suck at singing! But we all have good times and at around 4 or 5 pm we all go our separate ways. I never really thought I'd miss those reunions because growing up, I started to understand what the gossips are, to see that adults fight too and sometimes things turn sour. Very Brothers & Sisters -ly like. But I miss the reunions because my grandma made sure that all her relatives keep in touch and get to know each other. She made sure that all her grandchildrens feel they are loved and cherished. I think I got my entrepeneurial skills, my passion for events gathering and my persistenace from her display of her strength and her vision. She didn't talk about it much but she showed me so many wonderful traits that I'd like to emulate. Oh I miss her. Bless hers and Lolo's soul in heaven....

Ferdie said maybe it's time for me to change surname so I won't miss this clan reunions so much anymore. I like entertaining the thought but as Michael Buble's song goes 'i still havent met you yet!'.
